Would you like to experiment with a design like this? You'll find a supply list below, including a link to the stencil I used from A Colorful Life Designs. Let’s get Started:

Card Base: 5.5 x 8.5, scored and folded at 4.25

Card Face: 5 ⅜ x 4 1/8

Card Face:

  • I laid the card face on a piece of scrap paper and positioned the stencil.

  • I used a palette knife to spread Duo Gel** across the exposed areas. I removed the stencil and put it into water immediately.

  • I put this aside until the gel had completely dried: once dry, I laid a piece of Opal Foil (precut to size) over the card face and ran it through the Big Shot.

  • I removed the foil, leaving the snowflake pattern behind, stuck to the gel.

  • I positioned the die on the card face and ran it through the Big Shot.

** See Foiling Without Heat under Techniques in the header.

Other:

  • I used Versafine Onyx to stamp JOY on a scrap of cardstock, and then used a small circle punch to cut it out.

  • I applied Versamark embossing ink to the edge of the circle by standing it up and rolling it across the surface like a wheel.

I often use this method to create a very fine border on a piece when I want to add a touch of luxe, and usually a bit of definition.

  • I sprinkled silver embossing powder on and set it with my heat gun.

  • I used the same punch to cut two more circles.

Assembly

  • I glued all three circles together with the JOY on top.

  • I glued the card face to the card base, centered on all sides.

  • I added the layered sentiment where shown in the image.

  • I placed a good-sized rhinestone in the center of the snowflakes.

Final Thoughts:

This combination of stencil and die work so well together, and the Opal transfer foil is the perfect finishing touch. Subtle, but definitely “there”.
