Card Base: 4.0 x 11, scored and folded at 5.5

Black cardstock: 4.0 x 5.5

Card Face: 3 5/8 x 5.5

Card Face:

  • The chick was stamped in Memento Ink, coloured with alcohol markers and cut out with a matching die. This stamp and die retired not too long ago which is too bad as she has lots of personality.

  • I used two stencils on this one: Itty Bitty Love and Perfect Day, both from A Colorful Life Designs. I stencilled completely randomly with Itty Bitty Hearts, using several colours and allowing the hearts to overlap in some areas and leaving white space in others. Then I went back in and stencilled the sentiment right over top, tilting the stencil to create a diagonal sentiment. I made sure that I used enough black ink to get a very dark sentiment.

  • Using the sentiment as a guide for the angles, I sliced the card front into three unequal pieces.

To assemble:

  • I glued the black cardstock onto the card base. I experimented a bit with placement of the three pieces of card front, and once I was satisfied I glued them in place.

  • I cut a couple of extra "blanks" of the chick, and in the end I had three layers to glue together. The middle layer was cut from scrap white card stock and was lined up precisely with the coloured image . The bottom layer was cut from black cardstock, and was offset slightly down and to the right. Once these were assembled I glued them onto the card front, allowing the cupcake to extend on the left hand side. (the card was planned so that this could happen and still have the card fit into a standard envelope.)

  • I added a few clear beads as a final touch.

Final Thoughts: I think this card is fun, and has a number of unexpected elements. I even like

the overlapping hearts. (I wasn't certain that I would, but I think it works here.
