Would you like to experiment with a design like this? You'll find a supply list below, including a link to the stencils I used from A Colorful Life Designs.  Follow the link and use discount code ChrisFan10 to save 10% on your entire order! (Master Creator Bundles are excluded as they already have a 20% discount built in.)

Let’s get started:-

Card Base: 5.5 x 8.5, scored and folded at 4.25

Borders:

    Black: 5.25 x 4.25

    Yellow:5.25 x 4

Card Face:  5 x 3 3/4

Card Face:

  • I put the card face onto my grip mat and then added the Double Honeycomb stencil on top.  I inked the top right and bottom left corners with a soft taupe ink.

  • I removed that stencil and added the first layer of the Honeybee stencil (there are 3 layers in this beautifully detailed stencil).

  • I  added the body of each bee with black ink:  I added these selectively on the card face, using Mint Tape to mask off areas around each one and prevent ink from straying into areas where I didn’t want it.

  • I removed the first layer of stencil, added the second layer, and inked the stripes on each bee with a dark yellow, again using Mint Tape to prevent stray ink from causing grief.

  • I removed this stencil and put the card face aside to dry completely.

  • With the ink dry,  I put the third and final stencil in place.

  • I used an embossing pen to colour inside each of the wings; then I  removed the stencil and sprinkled this with holographic embossing powder.

  • After setting this with a heat gun, I felt the wings needed more presence,  so I outlined each one with a fine gray marker.

  • I put the card face into my stamp positioner and added the BEE with the same yellow ink used for the bees.

Other:

  • I pressed my embossing ink onto the scrap of yellow cardstock, added holographic powder and set it with my heat gun. Voila! Glitter paper that matched my ink perfectly.

  • I die-cut the YOU three times,  once from yellow cardstock and twice from scraps of white cardstock.   I glued these together with the yellow on top.

  • I glued the YOU in place on the card face as shown.

Assembly:

  • I glued the black border layer to the card base, and the yellow on top of this.

  •  Finally,  I added the card face.

  • I glued the YOU in place as shown.

Final Thoughts

I love bee cards,  and the combination of the honeycomb and bee stencils were fun to work with.

I didn’t add any additional bling to this card -  those wings provide plenty of sparkle and shine.
