Let’s get Started:

Card Base: 5.5 x 8.5, scored and folded at 4.25

Border: 5.25 x 4

Card Face: 5 x 3.75

A Scrap of white cardstock for the letters

Card Face:

I had already stamped the beach chair onto the card face a couple of weeks prior when I was playing with ideas for a custom card order: and this one was left over. So then I just had to figure out how to use it …

  • I positioned the umbrella stencil behind the chair, masked off the handle and the tiny bit of metal on top and inked up the fabric section with blue ink.

  • I masked off the area I had just done and coloured the handle and the bit of metal on top with a silver gel pen. I used the same pen to add polka dots to the fabric section.

  • Avoiding the chair and umbrella, I used blending brushes to add ink representing water, beach and sky. I was trying to create the look of the beach chair and umbrella sitting right in the water on a very hot day..

  • I used a couple of small stamps in the water, creating a textured tone-on-tone look.

  • I came back to the bottom portion (water) with a dark blue ink to create a shadow beneath the chair and the umbrella.

  • Although the chair had been stamped previously, I added alcohol markers to the fabric at this point to create shadow and depth.

.

Other:

I blended blue and brown inks on a piece of scrap white cardstock, and then cut them out with alphabet dies.

I used rounded corner nesting dies to cut both the card face and the border layer down to size.

Assembly

I glued the border layer to the card base, and the card face on top of this as shown.

I felt that the card needed more texture, so I added spatter overall.. The initial spatter was simply water, and then I decided to add silver metallic watercolour as well.

I glued the letters on as shown.

Final Thoughts:

I love a tranquil beach scene!
