Would you like to experiment with a design like this? You'll find a supply list below, including a link to the stencil I used from A Colorful Life Designs. Let’s get started:

Card Base: 5.25 x 100.5, scored and folded at 5.25

Card Face: 5 x 5

Card Face:

I began this card by spraying the back of the stencil with Pixie Spray. I waited 20-30 seconds and then laid it down on the card face.

I rolled a brayer over the entire surface to ensure good contact between the stencil and the paper. This stencil has large open areas and fine, delicate lines to separate the petals. Pixie Spray ensures that those fine lines stay where they belong.

Using standard blending brushes, I applied school bus yellow ink to the center of the blossoms. Then I used pink and purple inks for the petals as shown. Finally, I added green at the edges where there are a couple of leaves.

I wanted to deepen the colours towards the center of the flowers, so I got out shading brushes and brushed ink on to gradually build up the colour while trying to avoid overlapping them.

I decided to add some red to the center of the blossoms to make them more intense. I used a light hand to create the desired depth in that area.

Leaving the stencil in place, I added a couple of spritzes of water, to add texture to the petals.

Other:

I didn’t want to obscure the flowers, so I chose a small sentiment.

I stamped the in black, and cut it out with an oblong die.

I added dimensional tape to the back of the die cut.

Assembly:

I glued the card face to the card base.

I added the sentiment as shown.

Final Thoughts

I am so happy with this! I’m not sure I would add the spatter if I did it again - it’s interesting but perhaps not necessary.
