Butterflies, or Flutterbies?

either way - they are moments of beauty

This card was created for the optional challenge over at 613 Avenue Create.  The challenge this month is A Splash of Colour, but as always  “anything goes”  is also an option.   Hop on over and check out the awesome entries - and while you’re there,  feel free to share a card and  grow the creativity!

Let’s get Started:

Card Base:  4.25 x 11, scored and folded at 5.5

Vellum:   4.25 x 7.5

Card Face: 4.25 x 5.5

Card Face:

  • I came across a background that I had created and tucked away in the “someday”  binder.  It was all multi-coloured bokeh,  and perfect for this challenge.

  • I stamped the butterflies with Memento ink directly over the bokeh,  positioning as shown.

  • I coloured the butterflies  with alcohol markers.

Other:

  • I centered an oval die on the vellum and ran it through the Big Shot to create the opening.

  • I put the vellum into a brick wall embossing folder and ran it through the Big Shot.

  • I die-cut three butterflies from white cardstock.

  • I stamped the sentiment and cut it out with a circular die.  I cut three more and glued them together behind the sentiment to provide depth.

Assembly:

  • I positioned the vellum on the card face so that the oval window was centered.

  • I folded the extra length around the card face on the top and bottom, securing it with scotch tape.

  • I added the butterflies as shown in the picture.

  • I added the small circular sentiment,  securing on the right as shown.

  • I added a small gem to each of the butterflies to add a touch of sparkle.

Final Thoughts:

I was disappointed in the embossing of the vellum: it didn’t show up as much as I had hoped.

I like the contrast of the very colourful butterflies on the card face with the die cut white butterflies.
