Would you like to experiment with a design like this? Below, you'll find a supply list, including a link to the stencil I used from A Colorful Life Designs. Follow the link and use discount code ChrisFan10 to save 10% on your entire order! (Master Creator Bundles are excluded as they already have a 20% discount built in.)

Let’s get Started:

Card Base: 5.5 x 8.5, scored and folded at 4.25

Card Face: 5.5 x 4 (after trimming)

I had quite a few strips of various cardstocks on my desk after the rush and bustle of the holiday season (still have some, to be honest!) … so it was time to use some up in what I call the End Cut Technique

Card Face:

  • I cut a piece of copy paper slightly larger than I needed - approximately 6 x 4.5

  • I cut a piece of added double-sided adhesive to this size and added it to the sheet.

  • I started laying strips down diagonally, randomly mixing width and colour as I went along. (I used a few strips of metallic card stock, as well as several pieces which had been cut off of a card front created with Lindy’s powders.)

  • When the entire piece of paper was covered with strips of cardstock I cut it down to the finished size of 5.5 x 4 and laid it on my Grip Mat. (The scraps of cardstock hang off of the edges making for a messy looking result until it is cut to size, and then voila! A card front is created.)

  • I positioned the stencil and applied light pink ink across the exposed areas.

  • I put the card face into my stamp positioner and added the floral image with black Versafine Onyx.

Other:

  • I looked through my binder** and found both the sentiment and the tiny gold bow, ready and waiting.

** See Ready To Go Binder under Techniques in the header.

Assembly

  • I glued the card face to the card base, leaving a white border on the left.

  • I used a punch to round the top and bottom corners of the right-hand side.

  • I added a gold embellishment to the center of the large flower in the bouquet.

  • I glued the bow to the stamped floral image and then added another gold embellishment as a finishing touch.

  • I put dimensional foam on the back of the sentiment and added it to the center of the bouquet, on the same angle as the strips of paper.

Final Thoughts:

I use copy paper as a base when making these to avoid extra bulk. In fact I often use scrap paper from my printer that has been printed on: it doesn’t show through and reuses paper headed for landfill.

I also like this technique because it provides subtle texture and visual interest to a simple design.

I am happy with this card overall, but the angle of the photo makes the border appear very crooked!
