Would you like to experiment with a design like this? You'll find a supply list below, including a link to the stencil I used from A Colorful Life Designs.  Follow the link and use discount code ChrisFan10 to save 10% on your entire order! (Master Creator Bundles are excluded as they already have a 20% discount built in.)

Let’s get Started:

Card Base:  5.5 x 8.5, scored and folded at 4.25

Border: 5 x 4.25

Card Face: 4.25 x 4.25

Card Face:

  • I placed the card face onto my Grip Mat and positioned the stencil on top.

  • I used ¼” washi tape to mask off strips across the stencil at regular intervals. *

  • I used green ink over the exposed surface.

  • I removed the tape, exposing the uninked areas.

  • Using Mint Tape to protect the areas already inked,  I worked my way across the surface with yellow ink, moving the tape as I went along.

  • I put the card face into my stamp positioner and stamped the image with black ink, repeating several times to get the intensity needed to stand out against the background.

  • I spattered the card face with silver metallic watercolour.

*See Perfect Spacing under Techniques in the header

Other:

I stamped the sentiment with black ink and cut it with an oblong die.

Assembly:

  • I glued the yellow border to the card base,  allowing just a narrow border on the left, and a much wider one on the right.

  • I glued the card face to the yellow layer,  once again allowing a narrow border on the left and a wider one on the right.

  • I added dimensional foam to the back of the sentiment and positioned it as shown in the picture.

  • I added three bits of black bling in three different sizes to the strip of yellow border on the right.

Final Thoughts:

I like the geometric pattern in two colours,  and with the addition of the chess pieces , this became a great masculine birthday card.
