Would you like to experiment with a design like this? You'll find a supply list below, including a link to the stencil I used from A Colorful Life Designs . Getting started:

card base: 5.5 x 8.5, scored and folded at 4.25

red border: 5.5 x 4.25

card face: 5.25 x 4

small scrap of cardstock for the picture hung on the wall

a larger scrap for the two mice with the french press

and one final scrap for the sign on the floor

Card Face:

  • I secured the Grunge Dots stencil to the card face, and using a light gray ink with a very light hand, I created a pattern on the top 2/3 of the card face . This takes on the appearance of wall paper in the final product.

  • I stamped the floor : there is a little overlap between the lines of the floor and the dots of the wallpaper, but because they are very light I decided it wasn't going to prevent me from moving ahead with the card.

Other:

  • I stamped the other pieces of the scene (the mice with the french press, the picture on the wall and the sign on the floor) on small pieces of scrap paper using memento ink, and coloured them with alcohol markers.

  • I fussy cut the mice and the sign on the floor, and I die cut the sentiment which would become the picture on the wall. I used a black marker and a ruler to create a "frame" around the sentiment.

  • After experimenting with placement I adhered both the mice and the sign on the floor. I drew the picture hanger on the wall using a microliner, and then glued the "picture" in place.

  • I used a light grey alcohol marker to add shadows under the two pieces on the floor.

Final thoughts: I was happy with this card when it was finished. Hopefully it will bring a smile to someone's face someday.
