Would you like to experiment with a design like this? You'll find a supply list below, including a link to the stencil I used from A Colorful Life Designs. Follow the link and use discount code ChrisFan10 to save 10% on your entire order! (Master Creator Bundles are excluded as they already have a 20% discount built in.)

Let’s get started:

Card Base:5.5 x 8.5, scored and folded at 4.25

Green Border: 5.25 x 4

Card Face: 5 β…› x 3 β…ž

A small scrap of cardstock for the sentiment

Card Face:

  • I secured the card face to the stencil with Mint Tape and applied ink over the entire surface. I used yellow, a soft pink and a soft orange randomly, allowing them to overlap and blend.

  • I removed the stencil, cleaned it, and then put it back in place, lining it up carefully and again securing it with Mint Tape to prevent any unwanted movement.

  • I applied silver DIY embossing paste*** to a portion of each leaf. Some leaves have a bit, some have more - achieving a very unplanned, random effect.

  • I put the card face aside to dry and put the stencil into water immediately to prevent the paste from drying on it.

*** See Homemade Embossing Paste under Stretch Your Pennies in the header.

  • Once the embossing paste was dry I dusted the entire surface liberally with anti-static powder.

  • I put the card face into my stamp positioner and made sure that I had the stamp perfectly straight by using a piece of acetate. ****

  • I stamped the image with black pigment ink several times and immediately coated this with clear embossing powder.

  • I set it with my heat gun.

**** see Testing Before You Stamp under Techniques in the header

Other:

  • I stamped the sentiment on scrap paper, and heat embossed with clear powder as before.

  • I cut this out with a stitched square die.

Assembly:

  • I glued the green border to the card base, centering carefully.

  • I glued the card face to the border, again centering carefully.

  • I glued the sentiment in place as shown.

Final Thoughts

I love this stencil, and this mixture of colours plus the embossing paste works so well with it.

I’m really happy with the pairing between that and the gorgeous stamp from Unity Stamps.
