Would you like to experiment with a design like this? You'll find a supply list below, including a link to the stencil I used from A Colorful Life Designs . Let’s Get Started:

Card Base: 5.5 x 8.5, scored and folded at 4.25

Card Face: 5.25 x 4

Card Face:

  • I sprayed the back of the stencil with Pixie Spray, waited about 30 seconds and then put it in place on the card front.

  • I ran a small brayer over the entire surface to ensure good adhesion.

  • I got out two inks - a dark blue and a light aqua - and the appropriate brushes.

  • I cut a mask that was wide enough to go between the rows of the pattern and cover exactly half of each.

  • I put that in place and inked with the aqua, moving the mask one space each time to protect the one right beside it.

  • When all the aqua was inked, I repeated the process with the dark blue.

Other:

  • I had already stamped, coloured and cut out Maude - she was waiting in my Ready To Go binder***, along with the gold circle. A quick look through the binder showed me these two pieces, I pulled them out to use on this card.

  • The sentiment had also been created in advance, and was waiting in the binder for the day it would find a spot on a card.

Assembly:

  • I glued the card face to the card base.

  • I glued the gold circle in place on the right side of the card.

  • I glued Maude in place as shown, allowing her slippers to extend beyond the card face just a wee bit.

  • I glued the sentiment in place as shown.

  • I wanted the sentiment and Maude to stand out just a bit more than they did … after some deliberation I used a black marker to add a shadow on the top and left of both pieces.

*** Technique: for more information on the Ready to Go binder and how I use it, check out Technique tab in the header and look for Ready to Go in the contents.

Final thoughts:

I like the fun striped look that the masking gave to the stencilled background.

If I ever recreate this card, I’ll use a grey marker to add shadow as the black is too harsh.

Overall, a fast and easy card to create.
