Would you like to experiment with a design like this? You'll find a supply list below, including a link to the stencil I used from A Colorful Life Designs. Let’s get Started:

4.25 x 11, scored and folded at 5.5

Cream Border Layer: 4 x 5.25

Copper Border Layer: 2.75 x 4 **

Card Face: 2.5 x 4

See Cheating on Layers and Borders under Sretch your Pennies in the Header

Card Face:

  • I laid the card face on the Grip May and positioned the stencil.

  • I used green ink across the exposed areas on the top, and blue on the bottom.

  • I went back and forth with both colours where they met in the center to get a good blend.

Other:

  • I die-cut the reindeer from copper cardstock.

  • I die-cut the “joy” from copper cardstock as well.

  • I die-cut a small oval from a scrap of cream cardstock.

Assembly

  • I inserted the cream border into an embossing folder and ran it through the Big Shot.

  • Then I centered and glued this layer to the card base.

  • I glued the card face to the copper layer, and then glued this to the left of the embossed layer as shown in the image.

  • Added the reindeer to the card face, allowing him to extend on the right.

  • I glued the “joy” to the small cream oval and then added glue and tucked it in under the legs of the reindeer.

  • I added a tiny red gem in place of the dot on the “J”.

Final Thoughts:

I’m happy with this combination of elements. I especially like the tiny red gem: it is a fun but unexpected element on the card face.

Supplies: (and links where possible)

I have listed which products I have used, and where they may be purchased. It's a huge marketplace and in most instances, there are multiple sources and many alternatives to choose from.

Stencil: Light Loops, A Colorful Life Designs

Waffle Flower Grip Mat, 8.5 x 6.5, Scrapbook.com

Dies:

Reindeer, Detailed Deer, Stampin’ Up! (retired)

Oval: Nesting Oval Dies, Hero Arts, Simon Says Stamp

Ink: Stampin’ Up!

Blending Brushes: Stampin’ Up!

Adhesive: Tombow Aqua, Michaels

Copper Foil Cardstock: Recollections, *** MIchaels

Card Base & Card Face: Recollections, Michaels

*** I purchased two packages of gold foil cardstock at Michaels during a sale, and I find it has a distinct orangish tint: I use it for copper.
