Would you like to experiment with a design like this? You'll find a supply list below, including a link to the stencil I used from A Colorful Life Designs.  Follow the link and use discount code ChrisFan10 to save 10% on your entire order! (Master Creator Bundles are excluded as they already have a 20% discount built in.)

Let’s get started:-

Card Base: 5.5 x 8.5, scored and folded at 4.25

Card Face:   5.25 x 4

Scrap paper to stamp the owl

Scrap paper for the sentiment.

Card Face:

  • I placed the card face on my Grip Mat,  and laid the stencil over top, positioning it as desired.

  • I used a dark maroon ink across the entire surface,  applying with a firm hand across the bottom and allowing it to fade as it went up each building.

  • I tried to use a gold gel pen to fill in the windows,  but I wasn’t happy with the result,  so I switched to a metallic gold marker.  This marker is opaque, so it covered all traces of the gel pen nicely.

  • I removed the stencil and used medium blue ink around the buildings to create the sky.

  • I stamped the cobblestone street across the bottom -  I didn’t place the stamp correctly and there was a gap between the bottom of the buildings and the beginning of the cobblestones.  I simply drew more in with a microliner.

  • I added soft grey ink over the cobblestones.

Other:

  • I stamped the owl and coloured him with alcohol markers.

  • I cut him out manually as I don’t have a die for this stamp:

  •  I  “oopsed” and cut off one of his feet!  No problem,  I cut the other one off as well and put the card face into the stamp positioner.

  • I added the stamp directly to the card face.

.

  • I glued the owl in place, carefully covering the entire stamp except for the feet.  They were -of course - exposed,  and I simply coloured them to match the rest of the bird..

  • I diluted a thick acrylic white paint and spattered the card front liberally.  (I went back twice to add more!)

  • I put the second piece of scrap paper into the stamp positioner, stamped the sentiment, and used a die to cut it to the shape shown in the image

Assembly:

  • I glued the card face to the card base.

  • I glued the sentiment in place as shown.

Final Thoughts

I love the fun, whimsical feel that comes from pairing this cutie with this particular sentiment.
