Would you like to experiment with a design like this? You'll find a supply list below, including a link to the stencil I used from A Colorful Life Designs . Follow the link and use discount code ChrisFan10 to save 10% on your entire order! (Master Creator Bundles are excluded as they already have a 20% discount built in.)

Let’s Get Started:

Card Base: 5.5 x 8.5, scored and folded at 4.25

Card Face: 5.25 x 4

Card Face:

  • I attached the stencil to the card face with Mint Tape, and applied black ink over the entire surface. I wanted to create a dark, dark sky - so I kept applying ink until I was satisfied.

  • I mixed a tiny bit of Dr. Ph. Martin’s Bleed Proof White with water, and - leaving the stencil in place - added spatter to the sky. (This is hands down my favourite white medium for spatter.)

  • I put the piece aside to dry - the intense ink needed time to dry, as well as the white spatter.

Other:

  • I die cut three small trees out of a gel print.

  • I die cut the sentiment pieces twice, once out of black, and once out of cream.

  • I coated the cream sentiment pieces with versamark and added Pearlized embossing powder. (This has a lovely sheen in real life, sadly I wasn’t able to do it justice in the photo.) Once they were heat set and cooled, I glued the black sentiment pieces onto the back of each embossed piece, off-setting slightly.

Assembly:

  • I glued the card face to the card base.

  • I glued the trees in place, nestling them into the shapes created by the stencil.

  • I glued the sentiment pieces towards the top left of the card face.

  • I added a small pearls onto the card face as shown.

Final thoughts:

When I look at this card I see a forest with limitless stars on a black sky, with snow falling silently on the trees. I feel the immensity of the sky and the still, calm chill of the winter air.
