Would you like to experiment with a design like this? Below, you'll find a supply list, including a link to the stencils I used from A Colorful Life Designs. Follow the link and use discount code ChrisFan10 to save 10% on your entire order! (Master Creator Bundles are excluded as they already have a 20% discount built in.)

Let’s get Started:

Card Base: 6.5 x 7, scored and folded at 3.5

Large Kraft Border Layer: 6.25 x 3.25

Card Face: 6 x 3

Small Copper Border Layer**: 3.0 x 1.75

Kraft cardstock for Focal Image: 2.75 x 1.5

See Cheating on Layers and Borders under Stretch your Pennies in the header.

Card Face:

  • After laying the card face on the Grip Mat, I positioned the first layer of the Layered Dots stencil (with the larger dots).

  • Using Mint Tape for a mask, I applied red ink to only one-half of each dot in the row (the Mint Tape protected the other half).

  • Moving the tape to the next row, I repeated the process.

  • I repeated this across the card face. By the time I got to the last row, I realized that I had red ink creeping into the protected area: the tape was no longer sticking down well (due to the pressure I was applying when inking up against it) so I decided to try a strip of cardstock.

  • I repeated the process with yellow ink, covering the red sections in each row with the cardstock. This was more successful than the Mint Tape.

  • I removed the first stencil and added the second layer, with smaller dots. I applied metallic gold ink to the exposed areas after positioning the stencil so that the smaller dots fell between the bigger dots,

  • I put the card face aside until it was dry.

  • I brought in the Sparkles stencil and masked off the area around one “sparkle”. I carefully applied embossing paste through the opening. I repeated this several times, moving the stencil and wiping it clean each time to prevent smudges when I moved to a new area.

  • I put the card face aside to allow the embossing paste to dry.

  • Once dry, I used a corner chomper to take a bite out of each of the four corners.

Other:

  • I stamped the bunny on the small rectangle of kraft cardstock.

  • I die cut “Seriously” from the center of the copper border.

Assembly

  • I glued the copper layer to the card base and the card face on top of both, centering in each instance.

  • I glued the bunny to the kraft border and then glued these ion the card face as shown.

  • I glued the Seriously in place across the lower right corner of the focal image.

Final Thoughts:

This was time-consuming due to the various steps in the process, but I’m happy with the end result. I love that little bunny, and combined with that die cut this card could work for so many different occasions.

I would definitely check my masking tape earlier in the process another time. Live and learn.
