Would you like to experiment with a design like this? You'll find a supply list below, including a link to the stencil I used from A Colorful Life Designs . Follow the link and use discount code ChrisFan10 to save 10% on your entire order! (Master Creator Bundles are excluded as they already have a 20% discount built in.)

I am playing along with a linky party on Facebook - it's a great incentive to get my Christmas stuff out and get busy! #christmasinjuly2023byshclp

Let’s Get Started

Card Base: 4.25 x 11, scored and folded at 5.5

Border: 2 strips of red cardstock, 1/8 x 5.5

Card Face: 3 7/8 x 5.5

Card Face:

  • The snowflake stencil is created with very fine lines, so I sprayed the back with Pixie Spray,. I waited about 30 seconds and then laid it on my card face, running a small brayer back and forth over it to ensure good contact with the card face.

  • I used a very soft aqua ink over the stencil, as well as a light touch to ensure a very soft, pale background. I wanted to soften the harsh white background - in a pretty, seasonal way.

Other:

  • I had previously stamped and coloured images from the Tweet Winter Birds set - the die cuts were ready and waiting. I just had to grab them from my **ready-to-go binder and figure out which birds to use, and then what the placement would be on the card.

  • I also found the sentiment in the binder - a stroke of luck as I don't have too many Christmas sentiments in there right now. (Time to replenish!)

** if you'd like to know more about this binder, have a look under the Techniques tab at the top.

Assembly:

  • I glued the card face to the card base.

  • I glued down a red strip on either side on the card face,

  • I glued all the die cuts in place as shown.

  • I added a shadow under the bird feeder with a grey Copic marker.

  • I added a "platform" (a very fine black line) under the bird sitting on the sentiment, and then added a shadow there as well.

Stretch Your Pennies:

by using a narrow strip of card stock on either side I get the look of a full border without using an entire piece of cardstock.

Final thoughts:

I do love this stamp set! The wee birds have so much personality and are fun to create with.

I'm really happy with the snowflake in the background - it has served it's purpose well.
