Would you like to experiment with a design like this? You'll find a supply list below, including a link to the stencil I used from A Colorful Life Designs. Follow the link and use discount code ChrisFan10 to save 10% on your entire order! (Master Creator Bundles are excluded as they already have a 20% discount built in.)

Let’s get started:

Card Base: 5.5 x 8.5, scored and folded at 4.25

Brown Border: 5.5 x 4.25

Card Face: 5.25 x 4

Small piece of brown and dark brown cardstock for sentiment feature

Card Face:

  • I attached the stencil to the card face, positioning it so that the desired pattern was on the correct spot on the card face.

  • I masked off the stencil on both sides of the pattern, leaving a narrow strip exposed.

  • I applied a soft brown ink over the exposed portion.

  • I spattered the card face with brown ink and both metallic blue and copper watercolour.

  • Once dry, I inserted the card face into an embossing folder and ran it through the Big Shot.

Other:

  • I stamped the sentiment onto brown cardstock with dark brown ink, stamping several times to saturate the paper, and then used clear embossing powder to make it pop. I cut this out using a stitched square die.

  • I used another stitched die to cut a small banner out of dark brown cardstock.

Assembly:

  • I glued the brown border to the card base, and added the card face on top of this, centering carefully.

  • I glued the banner and the square together: once the glue was set I added dimensional foam to the back of the banner and put them in place below the stencilled pattern on the front of the card.

Final Thoughts

I love the way the spatter simulates marled yarn in the final result. I was going for the look of a cable knit sweater, and I think this worked.
