Getting Started:

Card Base: 5.5 x 8.5, scored and folded at 4.25

Dark Brown Outline: 5.5 x 4.25

White border: 5.25 x 4

Card Face: 5 1/8 x 3 7/8

Card Face:

  • I used a two part stencil to create the background. I chose to use the same colour for both layers ( #1 the mugs and #2 the design on the mugs) , allowing the build up of colour to create the pattern.

  • I used my stamping platform and black Memento ink to stamp the owls and branch image directly onto the stencilled card face, and I stamped a couple of times to get a good intense outline. I took it to my desktop and coloured it with alcohol markers. I used a black glaze pen to intensify the eyes on each owl.

  • I put the card face back into the Stamparatus, and stamped the sentiments on the top and bottom of the piece with a very dark brown ink. Again, I stamped a couple of times to get the intentsity I wanted. (I also use the Stamparatus to get the sentiment on straight, as that isn't something I'm good at !)

  • I added some spatter, using the same dark brown ink.

  • I carefully kissed the entire edge of the card face with the same ink, creating some needed definition when placed on the white border.

Assembly:

  • I glued the dark brown cardstock to the card base.

  • I centered and glued the white border to the brown.

  • I centered and glued the card face to the white card stock.

Final Thoughts:

I love pink and brown together, and I'm really happy with that combination used here, on this card. This was an experiement: I had never tried using alcohol markers over a surface that was previously stencilled using ink. Much to my delight, the coverage was perfect. (I used very light colours for the background, and darker colours for the focal image - that may be a factor.)
