Would you like to experiment with a design like this? You'll find a supply list below, including a link to the stencil I used from A Colorful Life Designs. Follow the link and use discount code ChrisFan10 to save 10% on your entire order! (Master Creator Bundles are excluded as they already have a 20% discount built in.)

Let’s get started:

Card Base: 4.25 x 11, scored and folded at 5.5

Card Face: 4 x 5.5

Card Face:

  • I secured the stencil to the card face with Mint Tape.

  • I carefully masked off all areas in between the rays of the sun (the center of the stencil). using Mint Tape, tearing it to create the angles I needed.

  • I applied a bright yellow ink with a fairly heavy hand to create my sun.

  • I put the card face into my stamp positioner, and placed the stamp as shown in the image.

  • I put a piece of acetate over the card face, and stamped onto this to be certain that the stamp was straight.

  • I removed the acetate and used black pigment ink to stamp the sentiment directly onto the card face. I repeated this a couple of times until I was satisfied with the intensity.

Other:

I had previously stamped/coloured/cut out the chicken - I retrieved her from my Ready to Go binder. ***

I die-cut the chicken coop, and brushed on dark brown ink. (This die also embosses, which left very nice detail showing through the ink.)

*** See Ready to Go binder under Techniques in the header to learn how I use this item to save time.

Assembly:

I glued the card face to the card base, centering it vertically

I glued the chicken coop in place, and then the chicken, positioning as shown.

I added shadows under both the coop and the chicken using alcohol markers.

Final Thoughts

I always like finding ways to stretch my supplies, so I was excited when I realized that the middle of this stencil could be used as a sun.

The boho design of the stencil did a quick sidestep and took on a whimsical feel once it was scaled back and used with the chicken and the coop; and I’m very happy with the end result.
