Would you like to experiment with a design like this? You'll find a supply list below, including a link to the stencil I used from A Colorful Life Designs.  Follow the link and use discount code ChrisFan10 to save 10% on your entire order! Let’s get started:-

Card Base: 4.25 x 11, scored and folded at 5.5

Border: 4 x 5.5 *

Card Face: 3.75 x 5.5

* See Cheating on Layers and Borders under Stretch your Pennies in the header

Card Face:

  • I stamped the distressed music background in a medium gray ink.

  • I stamped the large flower with black Memento ink and coloured it with alcohol markers.

  • I laid the card face on my grip mat and put the first layer of the stencil in place.  I moved the stencil around, placing bees randomly around the flowers, and one on top of a blossom.

  • I completed each of the bees, using the second stencil and then the third one in turn.

  • I used a copper metallic marker to trace around the wings, to make them more distinct.

  • I added a bit of distressing to the background, using the same ink that I had used for the wings.

Other:

I found a sentiment that would work for this design  in my Ready To Go binder.**

** see Ready To Go binder under Techniques in the header to learn how I use this to increase efficiency.

Assembly:

I glued the border to the card base, and the card face on top of this.

I decided to offset both of these layers slightly, rather than centering them.  It adds an unexpected detail,  and I like asymmetry.

Final Thoughts

My original plan included 3 bees,  but when I added the third I wasn’t satisfied with my placement -  so I added two more for balance.

No one would know but me -  but I would have preferred three.
