Would you like to experiment with a design like this? You'll find a supply list below, including a link to the stencils I used from A Colorful Life Designs.  Follow the link and use discount code ChrisFan10 to save 10% on your entire order! Let’s get Started:Card Base:  5.5 x 8.5, scored and folded at 4.25

Blue Border: 5.25 x 4 *

Card Face: 5 ⅛ x 3 ⅞

* see Cheating on Layers and Borders under Stretch Your Pennies in the header

Card Face:

I used the Layered Stenciling technique on this background *

  • I laid the card face on my Grip Mat,  positioned the first stencil and applied yellow ink across the exposed surface.

  • Leaving the first stencil in place, I placed the second stencil on top and applied soft pink ink through both layers.  This created orange squares while allowing the yellow ink to show through the fine lines created by the second stencil.

  • I removed both stencils and put the card face into my stamp positioner.

  • I stamped the flower with black Memento ink, repeating it several times to get a really dark image.

  • I positioned the butterfly next, stamping the outline with Memento, again repeating a couple of times to get the intensity I wanted. This is a 3 layer stamp:  the wings were stamped with light aqua and dark blue.

  • I nestled the sentiment in under the butterfly and stamped it with Memento.  I intended to stamp this a few times,  but I forgot to secure the card face with the magnet and it moved when I lifted the stamp.   I decided to leave well enough alone!

  • I put a drop of re-inker on a block, added a drop of water and spattered the upper portion of the card face with aqua (I protected the stamping from this spatter by tearing a piece of copy paper very quickly and laying it over the bottom of the card base.)

  • I added gold spatter created with metallic watercolour over the entire cardface.

  • I used a teal metallic gel pen to add accents to the flower.

*See Layered Stenciling under Techniques in the header for additional detail .

Assembly:

I glued the blue border layer to the card base, and added the card face onto this,  centering on all sides for both layers.

Final Thoughts:

I love these two stencils together:  they create such a fun look.

I also love a blue and orange combo,  and these stamps provided the perfect focal image.

So -  I’m happy with this card   😀
