Would you like to experiment with a design like this? You'll find a supply list below, including a link to the stencil I used from A Colorful Life Designs.  Follow the link and use discount code ChrisFan10 to save 10% on your entire order! Let’s get Started:

Card Base: 4.25 x 11, scored and folded at 5.5

Card Face: 4.25 x 5.5

Card Face:

  • I laid the card face onto my Grip Mat,  and carefully centered the stencil on top.

  • I selected pink, blue and orange for this design - a fresh and spring-y palette.

  • I worked on the rainbow first,  so I laid a piece of paper over the bottom of the stencil,  securing it with Mint Tape to keep it in place.

  • I used a soft hand to apply orange ink on the left-hand side of the rainbow.

  • I added blue to the right, again with a soft hand.

  • I added pink in the middle, overlapping the other two.  I brought the orange and blue brushes back and gently brushed over the overlapping areas until I had a smooth blend.

I used these colours deliberately as they play nicely and create new colours when they meet -  no danger of mud.

  • I moved the paper down, exposing the flowers but covering the Happy Birthday.  I added a second piece of paper aboveto protect the rainbow.

  • Again using a very light hand throughout, I applied the orange ink to the center of the blossoms, allowing it to extend just a bit onto the petals.

  • I applied pink ink to the petals, allowing it to fade towards the outside edges.

  • I went back and forth a few times with both pink and orange to create a smooth blend.

  • I removed the paper covering Happy Birthday and moved it up to cover the flowers.

  • I brushed pink ink on from the bottom, and orange ink up from the top, resulting in a fun two-toned sentiment.

Assembly:

  • I glued the card face to the card base.

  • I added 5 very tiny iridescent rhinestones to the middle arc of the rainbow on the left.

  • I added a slightly larger iridescent rhinestone in between Happy and Birthday.

Final Thoughts:

It's a very simple design,  but fresh and pretty.  The Happy Birthday ended up coloured more intensely than the rest:  this wasn’t planned,  but it works to make it pop,  and I’m fine with it!
